At the Stillwater Chamber Annual Awards Gala, Oklahoma Community CU employees, Nathan Miller and Hannah Nelsen were recognized as graduates of Leadership Stillwater Class XXX.
Leadership Stillwater is a program designed to identify, motivate and place emerging community leaders to assist in developing their potential. This is accomplished by stimulating an interest in Stillwater and by providing a common meeting ground of shared concerns among leaders from all sectors of the community. LSW prepares participants for more active involvement in the community.
Twenty participants joined Miller and Nelsen in the six-month program. They attended 12 interactive sessions, worked an internship at a non-profit, visited police and city council events and completed a group project. Their benefactor was the Stillwater Community Center’s handicap accessible project and they raised $14,168 to help this organization achieve their goal to improve entrances for patrons.
Nathan Miller, serves as Oklahoma Community CU’s System Administrator. Miller stated, “I gained so much knowledge about our community, the people who live here, and the struggles that Stillwater faces.” He went on to say, “It really helped me to understand myself more in a leadership capacity even though I don’t currently hold a leadership position career-wise.” He also noted: “There are leadership opportunities all over Stillwater.” Miller works at the credit union’s Main Office on McElroy Rd.
Hannah Nelsen, has managed the credit union’s Oklahoma State University’s campus branch for the past five years. She will assume the role of Branch Manager at the West Branch when it opens late Fall 2022.
“My favorite thing about being a LSW participant was how to work as a team to accomplish our fundraising goals,” stated Nelsen. “I really enjoyed the various sessions sponsored by local merchants and the best part of it all was, I really loved giving back to the community by sitting on the board of a non-profit organization.”
