Stillwater Middle School (SMS) was recently awarded a $1,000 grant for cultural outings and educational opportunities while visiting their Sister School in Kameoka, Japan.
“With the help from the Oklahoma Community Cares Grant, our delegation of 7 students and 3 teachers will be able to share presentations of our culture with our Japanese friends,” said Kari Quigley, SMS Sister School Exchange Coordinator. “We will get to experience and learn about their Japanese Culture, and come back to our middle school that has 947 students and share and present our experience of a culture from halfway around the world.”
Kameoka, Japan and SMS have been Sister Schools for 35 years. After a 15-year break in travel, the program was renewed in 2023 when a group of students and teachers from Kameoka, Japan visited Stillwater and experienced the American culture. This fall, SMS students and teachers will have the opportunity to experience the Japanese culture and learn from their Sister School classmates and teachers.
