While we created a new brand that better reflects our current membership and allowed us to grow, it was important for us to preserve the credit union’s foundation and history
University & Community Federal Credit Union recently shared with their members the completion of a branding analysis project, which lead to the credit union changing its name to Oklahoma Community Federal Credit Union. The organization will operate under the trade name Oklahoma Community Credit Union and unveiled a new brand and updated colors.
President/CEO Daniel Thrasher said the changes better reflect the growing field of members for the credit union which was originally founded in 1968 as a credit union for employees of Oklahoma State University.
“As our credit union transitioned to a community charter, and now expanded to serve a five-county area in north central Oklahoma, it made sense for us to review our name to ensure it reflected our membership and service area,” Thrasher said. “Our team is excited that we have a name and brand that we can grow with for years to come.”
The credit union partnered with Eclipse Brand Builders to complete the project after conducting member surveys about updating the brand in 2018. Eclipse worked with a group of twelve credit union employees and board members to develop the new name, colors and brand.
Earl Mitchell, a founding member of the credit union and current board member, served on the rebranding team. Mitchell shared that the new brand continues to fit the original vision of the credit union’s founding members.
“It was always our intention for the credit union to grow membership and share its benefits beyond the university and Stillwater,” Mitchell said. “This new brand pays respect to our history while giving us the opportunity to help people in communities across north central Oklahoma.”
While the name officially changes June 1, Thrasher said other changes will be gradual to limit the impact on members.
“Members will still be able to use all of their UCFCU branded checks and check cards until it’s time to reorder,” Thrasher said. “With some of the current supply shortages due to the pandemic, signage will gradually be updated during the summer; but overall, the impact to our existing membership will be minimal.”
